Kibbud Av v'Eim PART DEUX

I must say that I am impressed the thought that many of expressed in your posts. I would like to encourage you to continue to think deeply about each word you write, and share meaningful ideas.

The common thought throughout the previous thread was one of respect for our parents, which I whole heartily agree with. I want to pose here a different question, simply for the sake of thought and discussion.

Do you believe there is instance when one should not obey one's parents? If so when, and if not why?

Well, of course if you know something about a particular person, and if it might be harmful to yourself. In other words, if you know something that will harm you and your parents tell you to ignore it, and it is something that cannot be ignored, that is an instance where you may disobey your parents.

There is never a time when you can disobey your parents; or anyone for that matter. Unless your parents don't care about you, and don't love you, then the feeling should be mutual. But if you have a strong relationship with your parents, you may want to consider what you do and say to them. Just my opinion.

Ok well, morally.
Yes you should obey your parents
But do i always? No I dont. Because sometimes i just feel that their being so unreasonable and it just makes me want to eplode or something so its like no i cant always obey my parents. They just make it hard for me to do so. And im not trying to sound like some annoying little snobby kid or something for who ever is reading this but i just dont think its fair. I know that their my parents but why should i obey their every little command if i dont get respect in return?

of course, the torah tells us to both honor our parents and do the mitzvoth
if our parents tell us do something contrary to the commandments, we should argue with them

yes because there are times when you will agree with your parents and you wont. You should should be able to let your feeling out but not in a violent way. More likely in a discussion.

Well, of course there are many reasons why not to obey your parents. What if your parents are beating you? If they do not treat you with respect, why should you treat them with respect. You should treat them with respect always if they treat you with respect.

i dont think there should ever be a time not to obey you parents even if they are the most horriablest people on earth, that still gives not right to.

i think that in certain situations, listening to your parents isnt the right thing to do for yourself. Actually, i believe in many situations not listening to your parents would actually be the best for you. I dont mean like when parents say do your homework, or dont do drugs that not listening to them would be good, but like... when a parent says things like..well for example [this is a random example..but it works] with Romeo and Juliet - they werent supposed to be together, but by not listening to their parents they died, but were (as i like to think of it) reunited eternally in heaven, so had they listened to their parents they would have been unhappy for the rest of their lives, and beyond that.
there are many more examples like that, but morally you shouldnt disobey them, but if theyre being extremely unreasonable about something trivial, then i think everyone has the right to be their own person
