Do you think that Nathan suspected the clothing merchant to be dishonest? Elaborate not only on your post, but also on the posts of your classmates.
How did the clothing merchant's greed work against him? Do you think he got what he deserved? Why or why not?

I think that Nathan did infact know what the merchant was up to because he was being rather sneaky. Or maybe he was just scamming the merchant into giving the money to his family.
And i think the merchant did deserve what he got because its a full circle in like and karma will come back to bite you!
I tink that the husband actually suspected the merchant of greed beforehand and therefore played a little bit with the language and at the end helped his wife and children.
and on emmasegal1's comment
i agree with mostly what she said until she decided to include the part with scamming. He didnt scam. He was just helping his family.
I dont find it possible to scam into giving money to the family.
Yeah, I also don't think it was a scam. I think it was pretty genius to ask Rabbi Harvey about it. Because honestly, I wouldn't have chosen my words so carefully so that what happened to the merchant would happen to my family or whatever. I'm not that intelligent. Just kidding. Or not. Nevermind.

I thought that the candlemaker was playing mind games on the clothing merchant, yet i think in the long run the wife was the smartest one to take the problem to the rabbi becuz she knew her husband was a wise man but it was the rabbi's job to solve her problem

i think he was testing the loyalty of the merchant. he knew that if the rabbi read it that he would also understand what nathan was doing. luckily the rabbi did infact turn it around and tought the merchant a lesson.
I think that the candle maker was actually not trying to trick the merchant and that the Rabbi was just helping him out when the wife came to him with the situation. I also think that the candle maker was just trying to get the money to his wife as soon as possible and he was in a rush because how could he know that his wife would take the merchant to the Rabbi AND that he would, in fact, agree to see the Rabbi even.
This value could go a few seerate ways. All of the points brought up are indeed valid. One of the most feasible causes may in fact be that the Merchant being scammed.

unlike what other people said, i dont really think Nathan suspectd that the merchant was dishonest he just made the trick n the agreement as a safe precaution he would have probably made the same deal if had thought the merchant was honest the mrechant got what he deserved for he tried to cheat and cheated himself
