Hachnasat Orchim -- Being a Good Host

"The righteous say little and do much"
-Talmud, Bava Metzia 87a

This week's quote is again from the Talmud. I have two questions which might help guide our comments and ultimately the discussion.
1. What does it mean to be a good host?
2. How does the quote relate to being host?

Please post your ideas and comments, by Wednesday morning. I will return later this week with another task for this value.

woo. first comment
haha okay, so i think that the way this quote applies to hosts is like for ex. :

when someone hosts a party and everyone wants something and the host is overwhelmed, like rather than saying UGH SHUTUP they just keep on doing whats being asked of them.
thats my take on it. i dont know ?

i guess that it doesn't really matter to the righteous how much people talk, its their actions that count so that could by y

being a good host means you help your guest and "do much" for them

1.To be a good host...
To be a good host requires several key virtues of the process of becoming a good host. To be a good host means to have a basic set of chivalric base values that have to do with respect and manners.

2. I actually cant seem to find how it relates to it. I'll tell you why too. Just because you are a good host doesnt make you a righteous person. You may have done a righteuos deed... but that doesnt make you a righteuous person. So it cant have any connection.

1. To be a good host requires qualities such as, being inviting, remaining neutral to any comments made, and being kind altogether.

2. It may relate to the to the quote in a way that you are a man/woman of a few words. You are told what to do and you get it done, no questions asked.

OK, so technically, "Hachnasat Orchim" translates into, "Welcoming Guests". Now that means that if you see that someone needs help or something, you bring them into your house, feed them, bath them, etc. this relates to the time when Abraham saw three people (angels) outside his house. When he saw them, he welcomed them into his house, fed them and housed them. Now he didn't know that they were angels, he didn't know anything about them, they were strangers to him. They could have been thieves or spies, but he brought them in anyways. I have a story about this too so here it goes..Eh screw it.

1.What does it mean to be a good host?
To be a good host requires that you be respectful, and have good manners.
2.How does the quote relate to being host?
The quote does not relate to being a good host. You can socialize and do little to be a good host. Just be respectful and have good manners.

Hi... To me i think being a good host is like that one saying treat others how you want to be treated. Sarah isreal and anonymous tehe i know who that is anywho make a good point. About with the party example and the abraham story.

I dont understand how a righteous person can make you a good host. I could be a good host at a party lets say and then steal your stuff out of your purse or whatever when your not looking. So yeah. (This is ackward i dont know how to end this thing uhm... bi?)

Being a good host: Well to be a good host in your own home, you make sure you do everything and go out of your way to satisfy your guests needs. For example; when my Sarah (Lev) comes to my house, she gets the comfy chair and I get the hard, uncomfy, annoying, giant pillow to sit one.

The quote relates to being a good host because hosts do the right things and listen to peoples wants and they don't say anything.

I think that being a good host means entertaining your guests and giving them whatever they want. A good host does not question their guest's requests and serves them to the best of the ability.

(I don't understand the second question)

well to answer the first question. I think being a good host involves doing things for people unconditionally

becausee hostes not only entertain but they kinda do alot to their always working to keep their guests satisfied

Well to be good host i think you need to be respectful to those you are a guest for. Don't take advantage of being a guest eather.

Being a Righteous does not really meen you ar a good gues. You could be a good person .
