Practical Applications of Time

It seems to be a problem of late, that we at Adelson are becoming more lackadaisical with our time. Our schedules have been altered and we forget when class begins and for some, when class ends. Do you have any ideas or suggestion as to how we can make our time be more valuable with one another? We know there is the occasional 'quick word' with a teacher or student that becomes five minutes or longer, but when the 'occasional' becomes the norm, we need to retool our attitudes and procedure for the common good.

Let's try something new with this post, and turn it into a running conversation. Feel free to not only suggest ideas, but positively develop others' to reach a new concensus. Keep the discussion positive and moving.

The Upper School is OUR community, and as such we have the power to shape it and make it an environment conducive to learning based on OUR needs. This week, let's tackle the idea of time and if you have a suggestion of something we should discuss e-mail me, and let's discuss.

We're here to build community, so let's build it.

Well if people are always late for class, why don't we have a bell or something? I know bells are loud and obnoxious, but they might help...

Yes, I agree with Morgana. In order to really be on top of time, we need to have some kind of bell system. A bell to start and end the class would be effective. Also, rather than having all of the announcements in Town Hall, we can have announcements each morning over the PA system. It is easier, and does not waste any time. Instead of reporting to Town hall, we can all go to a "Homeroom" class where we can listen to announcements. Also, I know that this is off-topic, but why don't we say the Pledge or Hatikfah each morning? Isn't that sort of unpatriotic?

I was wondering that too, Ben. I remember since 6th grade, Carla would come on the intercom and we would say the Pledge and someone would be there singing Hatikvah.

I think a superobnoxious bell is just the kind of thing our school needs. a bell would completely eliminate any arguaing about whos on time or not becuase u either r n the class before the bell or r not

Is a 'ding' from a bell the only solution?
Let's think it out. Think outside the box and what other options are possible?

I really don't think there is anything else that can be done. Unless there is some way we can get people to be on time with discipline? I don't think so.

We discussed this in class. Time is irrelavent because we created it. We dont NEED time. If there was no time, we wouldnt waste time. So becuase there is time, we waste time.

I think that we should have bells also. If the teachers expect us to get to class on time we need to know when class is starting and ending. Memorising the times can get confusing.
